Terps and UM Orthopaedics: A Winning Combination

The Terps posted a 34-4 record in winning their first NCAA title in 2005-06. (Photos by Greg Fiume.)

When the Maryland Terrapins women's basketball team won its first ever NCAA title by defeating Duke 78-75 April 4, 2006 in Boston, its team physician from the University of Maryland Medical Center's Department of Orthopaedics was with them as usual. Our sports medicine physicians were also there when the Terrapins won NCAA titles in men's soccer and field hockey in the fall of 2005, as the University of Maryland Orthopaedics is the official medical provider for all 27 Terrapin athletic teams.

The Terps overcame a 13-point deficit to win the title.

The consistency displayed all season by Kristi Toliver, Crystal Langhorne, Shay Doron, Marissa Coleman and the rest of the talented Maryland women's basketball team was matched by the expertise, commitment and hard work of our medical staff, who are part of the dedicated health care teams at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Kernan Hospital and University of Maryland Medicine at Timonium, where athletes and non-athletes alike receive excellent, comprehensive care year-round.

Head coach Brenda Frese celebrates in style.

In addition to caring for the University of Maryland's athletic teams, the Coppin State Eagles have chosen University of Maryland Orthopaedics to provide their care, as have many Howard and Baltimore County high schools.

While all of our resources are set up to meet the exacting demands of these collegiate and high school teams, we provide state-of-the-art sports medicine and clinical care for athletes of all ages and all skill levels, from collegiate players and school athletes to "weekend warriors."

Congratulations to the three Maryland Terrapins title-winning teams in 2005-2006 from University of Maryland Orthopaedics. We are proud to be where the NCAA champion Terps go for their health care!
