Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, President of UMBC
On June 4, 2015, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski spoke with the residents and provided insight in his role as president of the honors university, University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Dr. Freeman's focus is on science and math education, with a special emphasis on minority participation and performance. In 2008, he was named one of America's Best Leaders by U.S. News & World Report, which ranked UMBC as the nation's #1 "Up and Coming" university the past six years (2009-2014). Dr. Freeman was also named one of America's 10 Best College Presidents in 2009 and one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" in 2012 by TIME magazine.
Dr. Hrabowski discussed his upbringing and how he developed his leadership skills throughout his life. He pushed the residents to think "outside of the box" and to challenge themselves to become leaders within their field.
