Welcome orientation 2021

Applications for all tracks are only accepted through ERAS. All positions are offered exclusively through the National Residency Matching Program.

The program currently offers:

  • 5 PCCM fellowship positions, 3-year program (Program Code 1252156F0)
  • 1 NIH/NHLBI PCCM fellowship track position, 3-year program with optional 4th year (Program Code 1252156F1). This is ideal for those pursuing a physician-scientist career.

Applicants may apply to either or both programs. Those selected for the NIH/NHLBI track will have an additional interview day with the NIH faculty.

  • Our PCCM Fellowship Program and Division are committed to promoting and championing diversity, equity and inclusion. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals irrespective of gender, racial or ethnic background, religious affiliation, or marital status. The AAMC Holistic Review process is utilized in candidate selection. In addition, all faculty have undergone Unconscious Bias Training.
  • Applicants must be Board Eligible in Internal Medicine prior to starting our Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. This usually requires that the applicant is either currently enrolled in and will complete a 3-year residency or has already completed a 3-year residency in an approved training program in Internal Medicine in the United States prior to fellowship.
  • The University of Maryland Medical Center does sponsor J-1 visas; however, other visas are not sponsored for fellowship training.
  • Our PCCM Fellowship Program includes required rotations at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. One of the requirements for rotating at the Veterans Administration is evidence of registration with the U.S. Selective Service. If matched into our program, you will be required to submit appropriate documents, either a Status Information Letter or an approved Exemption Document.

How to Apply

To submit applications through ERAS, applicants must contact the ERAS Fellowship Documents Office and request an electronic token, which is then used for access to the application site. We require that the following materials must be submitted through ERAS:

  • ERAS Common Application, including email address
  • Curriculum Vitae (ERAS format is acceptable)
  • Personal Statement
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • Medical School Transcript
  • MSPE (Medical School Performance Evaluation - Dean's Letter)
  • USMLE Transcript and Results

  • If applicable, a copy of your ECFMG certificate and Visa.

To achieve full consideration from our program, all applicants should submit the above required materials to ERAS in a timely manner. Interview invitations are emailed to selected candidates via Interview Broker in July and August. We generally conduct interviews on Wednesdays throughout September and October.

In alignment with the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD), our national professional society, and to ensure a uniform interview process that is equitable to all applicants, our fellowship interviews for applicants in 2021-2022 will be held exclusively virtually. We will not offer in-person site visits.
