Dr. Sarmiento, originally from Honolulu, HI, graduated with a B.S.H.S. from the University of Arizona. She continued her medical education at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and earned her M.P.H. degree as well as her M.D. degree while enrolled there. She completed her residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center in internal medicine and stayed at UMMC to complete fellowships in sleep medicine and pulmonary and critical care. Dr. Sarmiento is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine. Her special interests include sleep disorders and women's health, particularly sleep and pregnancy, the focus of her clinical research efforts.
