About Dr. Vakharia
Dr. Kalpesh Vakharia is a faculty member of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck surgery in the division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. He is an assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and serves as a reconstructive surgeon at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. He specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck, and is highly skilled in both surgical and non-surgical techniques of facial rejuvenation and reconstruction.
His specialty areas of interest and expertise include surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation techniques, aesthetic surgery of the face, cosmetic and functional surgery of the nose (rhinoplasty) and eyelids (blepharoplasty), external ear surgery (otoplasty), skin cancer, microvascular, and trauma reconstruction and the treatment of facial nerve disorders.
Dr. Vakharia completed his undergraduate education in Biochemistry and Computer Science Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He received a master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He had the honor of being elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco and completed a general surgery internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital and an Otolaryngology residency at the Harvard combined Otolaryngology program. He went on to complete a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Head and Neck Institute.
As a member of the University of Maryland faculty, Dr. Vakharia is active in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows. He has performed translational and clinical research in order to help advance the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and presented his research at national meetings. He is dedicated to advancing the field of Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery as well as improving the lives of his patients in the United States and abroad. He was part of a surgical mission to Angeles City, Philippines with Medical Missions for Children to treat local children with cleft lip and palate disorders.
