Cardiac Anesthesia at UMMC: Services We Provide

Cardiac anesthesia goes beyond delivering anesthetic to our patients. We provide the full spectrum of care for patients, including assessing the results of procedures and monitoring brain function during surgery. We provide a safe and controlled environment, continuing our care even after the surgery is complete.

Our services include:

  • Assessing cardiac abnormalities: We use transesophageal echocardiography, which uses sound wave technology, to look for and assess abnormalities of the heart. We also use it to determine the success of the surgical procedure. Learn more about cardiac diagnosis

  • Neurologic monitoring: We carefully monitor brain and nerve function during procedures, ensuring your health and well-being.

  • Coagulation tests: We perform these tests, which assess your blood’s ability to clot, as part of our comprehensive care.

  • Perioperative Blood Conservation Program: This program minimizes the use of blood products. We are dedicated to providing a safe environment for cardiac patients who want to minimize their exposure to blood products. This may be due to religious beliefs or because they have known contraindications to blood elements.
