University of Maryland Face Transplant Patient Shares Personal Story for First Time
For the first time since his transplant, Richard Norris allows a reporter to chronicle his journey. Norris’ face transplant was completed at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland on March 20, 2012. The surgery took 36 hours and included more than 150 nurses and professional staff.
The University of Maryland remains committed to perfecting the clinical and basic science research of facial transplantation in the hopes of restoring normalcy to the lives of other patients living with severe facial injuries.
