1st year: PGY2
4-week orientation in July: combination of didactics and clinical experience
12-weeks on Oculoplastics/Neuro-ophthalmology
12-weeks on Inpatient consults (two 6 weeks blocks)
12-weeks at University of Maryland Midtown Hospital Eye Clinic (two 6 week blocks)
12- weeks rotating through the University Eye Care Faculty Practice
Attend Wilmer Current Concepts in December
Attend MSEPS meeting in May

2nd year: PGY3
12-weeks on Glaucoma
12-weeks on Peds/Uveitis
12-weeks at Baltimore VA Medical Center (primary cataract surgeon experience)
12- weeks at University of Maryland Midtown Hospital Eye Clinic (primary cataract surgeon experience)
Attend 5-day Wills Eye Board Review Course in Philadelphia in winter
Attend Alcon Cataract Course in Boston in June

3rd year: PGY4
12-weeks on Retina
12-weeks on Cornea
24-weeks at Baltimore VA Medical Center (Two 12 week blocks)
Attend American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in the fall
Attend Alcon National Resident Course in Texas

Call:
Primary call shared by PGY2 & PGY3- Call from home every 8th night and every 8th weekend
Backup call provided by PGY4- Call from home every 4th night

Lectures: Most lectures are held at 7am in the department conference room on Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Grand Rounds are held on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am. Journal clubs are held 4-5 times a year.

International Elective: Optional for PGY3 in good standing; opportunity to work with the Ophthalmologists at LV Prasad hospital in India for 1 month. Residents get exposure to a very busy clinic with significant ocular pathology and also learn some techniques of Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS).
