Practicum

Thank you for your interest in the Child Life Practicum Program at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital. This program provides an introduction to the needs of the hospitalized child and their family. The practicum is available to students who are in their junior or senior year of college and have completed course work in child development, family studies, or a related field. Individuals who are unaffiliated and have completed college course work in child development may also apply. The practicum experience is 150 hours. At this time we are able to accommodate one to two practicum students per semester.

The practicum student will be provided with experience in a pediatric area of the hospital that is covered by a child life specialist. The area(s) available to the practicum student will vary. The practicum student must be able to work during their supervisors shift.

Please carefully review the Practicum responsibilities.
