Summer Groups Therapy

The Summer Series is a 6-week group therapy session held at the Care Clinic at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Open to families where there has been physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect of a child or child exposure to intimate partner violence. Groups will begin the week of July 12th and run until the last week of August. They are free of charge! Child care will be provided for children not participating in a group.

  • Social Skills Coping Group (For ages 9-12)
    • To help kids learn coping skills that they can apply in social situations. This will cover basic social skills as well as learning some coping skills to help them deal with conflict in a social setting. Components of the group will include skill-building and different modes of expression (e.g., art, poetry, music, etc.).
    • Tuesdays 6-7pm starting July 13, 2010
    • Led by Randy Chang, Psy.D
  • Coping Skills Group for Teens (For ages 13-17)
    • Focused on learning and practicing coping skills. Participants will learn about different types of copings skills including their benefits and how to use them. Some examples are relaxation techniques, problem solving skills, and mindfulness.
    • Tuesdays 6-7pm beginning July 13, 2010
    • Led by April Rectanus, LCPC
  • Parenting Skills Group (For parents and Caregivers)
    • For parents/caregivers of children who have experienced physical/sexual abuse or neglect and/or exposure to domestic violence.
    • To gain a better understanding of your child’s needs. Learn new strategies for positive parenting, provide support and enhance your relationship with your child. Provide group members an opportunity to share experiences as well as challenges of parenting and to give and receive support from other parents.
    • Tuesdays 6-7pm beginning July 13, 2010
    • Led by Melinda Hoffman, LCPC
  • Teen Relationship Group for girls (For 14-17 Year-Old Girls)
    • This group will focus on discussing a variety of types of relationships (i.e. friends, family, romantic etc.) and as well as ways to improve those relationships.
    • Fridays 4-5pm beginning July 16, 2010
    • Led by April Rectanus, LCPC and Meredith Johnson, BS
