Suggested longitudinal blocks  for pathway – incorporate research into longitudinal blocks

Choose 1 Rigorous month in senior year
Procedural/Diagnostic/Imaging – incorporate sedation services, PICC team, interventional radiology, ultrasound, radiology
General pediatric surgery – focus on OR experience, assessment in ED and in-patient units
Cardiac Critical Care – rotate on cardiac team in PICU, go to OR/cath labs
Hospital systems/multi-specialty/QI – rotate through various hospital disciplines (nursing, PT, OT, RT, pharmacy), QI training modules and multi-system QI project
Mount Washington Hospitalist – rotate on either chronically ill service or NICU step-down service
NICU at Mercy – rotate on Mercy NICU team, acting in a fellow role
  Nutrition
Hospitalist – BWMC/Upper Chesapeake
  Palliative Care, pain management
Peds ED Senior - precept other residents, coordinate throughput
  Simulation
PICU/NICU nights
  Transport – NICU/PICU

QI project for whole pathway, ie asthma discharge follow up

Possible month elective with QI training – Lean Sigma, Teluride, IHI modules; participate in ongoing division QI
Option to add a 1-month Teaching Elective as an IU as part of a longitudinal block and act as adjunctive teaching member to rounding teams  Business of medicine project
EBM journal club presentations during pathway, with a focus on translational, basic science, and clinical research articles
   
Pathway residents create monthly QI newsletter for department
