Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Program
We are excited that you have decided to pursue a career in neonatology! There is nothing more satisfying than making a difference in the life of a newborn child. Our goal is to train neonatologists who are committed to providing excellent care for their patients and are prepared to become the next generation of academic neonatologists. Our program is designed to balance clinical experiences and scholarly activities that are needed to develop specialty-specific knowledge and technical skills, and, more importantly, the critical thinking skills required to become life-long learners. Our large and varied patient population exposes you to the entire spectrum of neonatal disease processes. Experience in our NICU Follow-up Program will provide you with longitudinal follow-up of NICU graduates and involvement with a multidisciplinary team. The curriculum provides a balanced training experience that will prepare you for your career of choice.
As part of the training program, you will be expected to participate in a scholarly core curriculum and develop, conduct, and present in oral and written form, a scholarly activity such as basic, clinical, or translational research, educational curriculum development, health policy, etc. Each fellow is assigned a mentor, and three persons scholarship oversight committee to monitor their progress and advise them during the course of the scholarly activity. There are many opportunities for research on the University of Maryland campus. For interested individuals, the clinical fellowship can be combined with a Masters in Clinical Sciences, Masters in Public Health, or PhD for Clinicians Program.
Thank you for interest in our program. We look forward to meeting you!
