Jessica Durkee-Shock, M.D.
Class of 2017
Undergraduate: Vassar College
Medical School: University of Maryland School of Medicine
I grew up in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut, on a small farm. I went to boarding school at the Taft School for high school, prior to continuing my education with a BA in Chemistry from Vassar College. After graduating, I followed my Maryland- native husband to Baltimore, where I entered medical school. I graduated from University of Maryland Medical School in the spring of 2012. I had completed only 3 months of intern year in Internal Medicine at University of Maryland Medical Center before I realized that I missed little people more than I could possibly imagine. I subsequently joined the combined Med-Peds Program in July of 2013.
Becoming a "Med-Ped"-er was the best decision of my life. I love the combination of high acuity children and adults, and the phenomenal intensity of our training at a challenging tertiary care center. I receive wonderful support from my faculty, mentors, and colleagues. We have extensive opportunities to teach medical students, in both formal and informal settings, which I hope to continue to do in my future career. I plan on staying in academics and pursuing a career in a subspecialty, though which is yet to be decided. I currently live north of the city in Baltimore Country, in a lovely suburban home. Baltimore is a lovely town, full of spirit, sports, and wonderful food, and I am so very glad I stayed.
