  • To learn what bone marrow transplant and peripheral blood stem cell transplant are and how they are used as a treatment for some diseases
  • To understand what to expect during each phase of transplant
  • To learn what steps need to be taken before beginning treatment
  • To help you prepare mentally and physically for your transplant
  • To answer questions regarding transplant

Getting Started:

Beginning any medical treatment can be very stressful. There are many unanswered questions during this time, and you will need someone to talk to. Your transplant nurse coordinators are your primary point of contact in the transplant program. They are available to answer questions and provide guidance during your treatment process. It is also helpful to have someone else with you during appointments.

You and your family should select someone to be your caregiver. He or she may be responsible for:

  • Assistance with daily activities
  • Help with medications
  • Reporting of symptoms to transplant team
  • Transportation to and from the hospital
  • Keeping track of appointments
