With one telephone call, physicians can consult with University of Maryland School of Medicine specialists and, when necessary, arrange to have their patients transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center by ground or air ambulance.
The ExpressCare team ensures the efficient and timely transfer of clinical information among referring and accepting physicians and nurses in order to maintain an appropriate continuum of care. In addition to the Baltimore operation, a satellite ExpressCare operation is based on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

The Maryland ExpressCare Transfer/Communications Center
The Maryland ExpressCare Transfer/Communications Center provides 24/7 access to University of Maryland School of Medicine attending physicians, who provide expert consultation within minutes of your call. The Communications Center also coordinates transport services to the University of Maryland Medical Center, and works closely with the Medical Center's Patient Placement Center to facilitate the admission process.
Adult Transport Service
Maryland ExpressCare Adult Transport Service offers fast, expert inter-facility transport by ground or air ambulance for patients requiring advanced monitoring and/or intervention while being transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
The transport staff consists of nurses with at least 2 years of critical care experience, paramedics and emergency medical technicians. Medical direction is provided by University of Maryland Emergency Medicine physicians.
Pediatric Transport Service
Maryland ExpressCare for Kids was the first pediatric transport service. The transport team consists of pediatric nurses with at least 2 years of critical care experience, paramedics and emergency medical technicians, who take direction for each patient transport from the attending physician in the pediatric intensive care unit. The transport services use special equipment designed for pediatric patients to monitor and maintain vital support measures during transport.
Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program
The Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program, a joint program between the University of Maryland Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital, provides free, 24-hour-a-day transport by ambulance or air from community hospitals to UMMC or Johns Hopkins.
To arrange a neonatal transport, call 1-888-540-6767, day or night. A neonatologist will quickly respond to your inquiry and make arrangements for immediate transport.

Through a partnership with PHI Air Medical LLC., Maryland ExpressCare transport service includes helicopters with the capability of transporting sick, complex patients extended distances.
The flight crews include highly trained pilots, certified flight registered nurses (CFRN) and certified flight paramedics (FP-C). The medical personnel maintain competencies in all aspects of patient care. PHI has a strong commitment to safety, service and customer satisfaction. PHI has logged more than 11 million flight hours, and during that time has developed and refined safety programs and practices. This has given PHI an unprecedented safety record in the commercial helicopter industry.
