In order to be credentialed for Moderate Sedation privileges for pediatric patients, the following criteria are required. NOTE: Completion of the criteria does not automatically grant the privilege to begin performing moderate sedation. Practitioners must request and be approved for moderate through the Medical Staff credentialing process. Contact your department credentialing representative for guidance.

Initial Competency Requirements for all LIPs

  • Attestation that you have viewed the Pediatric educational seminar on the critical elements of Moderate Sedation provided by the University of Maryland Department Of Anesthesiology*
  • A current BLS/PALS/NRP course completion card

On-going Competency Requirements for all LIPs

  • Attestation that you have viewed the Pediatric educational seminar on the critical elements of Moderate Sedation provided by the University of Maryland Department of Anesthesiology every two (2) years*
  • A current BLS/PALS/NRP course completion card
  • Successful demonstration of on-going competency

*Physicians trained and board certified in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care, or Neonatology are not required to view the educational seminar.
