Event Planned for Book About Women in Surgery

Surgeons from University of Maryland Contribute Stories
(Women faculty within the Department of Surgery)
Five surgeons from the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery contributed to a new book titled Being a Woman Surgeon: Sixty Women Share Their Stories. The book, scheduled for release in June, will be previewed at a special event at the Enoch Pratt Public Library on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 7:00pm.
Dr. Preeti R. John, editor of Being a Woman Surgeon, is a critical care surgeon at the Baltimore VA Medical Center and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
The book is a compilation of essays, poems and interviews with women surgeons from various specialties. In addition to Dr. John, contributors from the University of Maryland include:
- Sheri Slezak, MD, professor of surgery and Head, Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine
- Jeannie Chun, MD, assistant professor of surgery, University of Maryland School of Medicine and pediatric surgeon, University of Maryland Medical Center
- Adriana Laser, MD, Vascular Surgery fellow, University of Maryland Medical Center
- Heather Lillemoe, MD, graduate, University of Maryland School of Medicine class of 2014
