University of Maryland Physician Chairs Report Card Task Force

Jon Mark Hirshon M.D., M.P.H., an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, is Chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians’ (ACEP) Task Force, which today issued its latest Report Card on the emergency care environment in the United States.   Dr. Hirshon and his colleagues note that 130 million Americans visited emergency rooms in 2010 – that’s 247 visits every minute.  Read more about the Task Force’s report here.  

The ACEP report evaluated 136 measures in five major categories: 

  • Access to Emergency Care
  • Quality and Patient Safety
  • Medical Liability Environment
  • Public Health and Injury Prevention
  • Disaster Preparedness
