U.S. News "Best Hospitals" Ranks Six UMMS Hospitals Among the State's Top 25 -- More Than Any Other Hospital System in Maryland

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) has six of its 11 hospitals recognized among the Top 25 “Best Hospitals in Maryland” by U.S. News and World Report for 2012-13. These rankings give UMMS the distinction of having more hospitals in the State's Top 25 than any other hospital system in the state.
UMMS Hospitals Among Top 25 Best in Maryland:
#2 - University of Maryland Medical Center (Baltimore)
#9 - Shore Hospital Memorial Hospital (Easton)
#15 - University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus (Baltimore)
#20 - Upper Chesapeake Medical Center (Bel Air)
#22 - Baltimore Washington Medical Center (Glen Burnie)
#25 - Kernan Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital (Baltimore)
Among all of the hospitals in the state, U.S. News identified 25 in Maryland that met their performance criteria.

The flagship academic medical center at the core of the University of Maryland Medical System continued to perform well in the national rankings. The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) gained ground in numerous specialty categories and was listed as one of the top hospitals in the country in nine specialty areas.

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is a private, not-for-profit network of 11 academic, community and specialty hospitals located across Maryland. UMMS employs nearly 15,000 people, making it one of the largest employers in the state and generating $3.5 billion in economic activity. In fiscal year 2011, the system's hospitals, which have about 2,300 beds, recorded a total of 121,401 patient admissions, more than any other health care provider in Maryland.
