UMGCC Breast Program Receives National Quality Accreditation
For immediate release: June 01, 2012
The Breast Evaluation and Treatment Program of the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center (UMGCC) has received a three-year re-accreditation for 2012 by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program of the American College of Surgeons. The NAPBC Accreditation recognizes our breast cancer program's commitment to quality improvement, monitoring of patient outcomes, and patient and professional education. There are only 120 centers nationwide that have earned this recognition.
NAPBC designation recognizes that the center provides the highest quality evaluation and management of patients with the full spectrum of breast disease. In order to achieve NAPBC accreditation, the breast program underwent a rigorous evaluation and on-site review of its performance and compliance with national standards. Criteria for receiving the accreditation include center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. More than a dozen of the nation's leading medical professional organizations are NAPBC members and have collaborated on establishing a single, national standard for the quality of care provided to breast cancer patients.
Receiving care at the UMGCC ensures that a patient will have access to:
