Inaugural University of Maryland Heart Center Baltimore 10-Miler on June 21

Baltimore 10 Miler (UM Heart center)

The University of Maryland Heart Center is the title sponsor of the inaugural Baltimore 10-Miler, to take place on Saturday, June 21 at 7:30 a.m. inside Druid Hill Park near the Maryland Zoo.

"Here is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to the Baltimore community and to highlight the importance of exercise for cardiovascular health," said Alison Brown, M.P.H., Senior Vice President of Business Development & Marketing at University of Maryland Medical Center.

The course will run along two of Baltimore’s lakeside parks. At the start, runners will pass the lake in Druid Hill Park to 33rd Street, where they head east until reaching Lake Montebello. After a lap around the lake, participants will head west on 33rd Street before returning to Druid Hill Park to complete the course.

“We feel that the 10-miler fills a void in the Baltimore running scene,” stated Lee Corrigan, president of Corrigan Sports, the race promoter. “This new race will give runners something to look forward to during the winter or even kick off their training for the Baltimore Running Festival in October. Having the University of Maryland Heart Center as our title sponsor in the first year will give the event prestige.”

The field will be limited to 2,000 participants who are able to finish the course in less than 2 hours and 20 minutes. All finishers will receive a pair of gender-specific performance apparel shorts. Registration will only take place online and will close on Monday, June 16 at 9:00 a.m. There is a $50 registration fee for all participants.

In addition to the Maryland Heart Center, race proceeds will benefit Baltimore Police Charities and the Maryland Zoo.
