Your Health: Pancreatitis

Overview

The pancreas plays a critically important role in how we digest and metabolize food. It produces digestive enzymes and hormones such as insulin, which controls how the body uses and stores sugar. University of Maryland gastroenterologist Dr. Eric Goldberg describes what happens when the pancreas becomes inflamed – a condition called pancreatitis – and explains the differences between acute and chronic forms of the disease.
