Your Health: Asthma

Overview

Nearly 26 million people, including almost 7.1 million children, have asthma in the United States, according to government estimates. Asthma accounts for nearly 2 million emergency department visits each year. Yet health experts say this lung disease is underdiagnosed and undertreated. In this interview, Dr. Kathryn Robinett, an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and a pulmonologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center, discusses how doctors diagnose and treat asthma and ways to help prevent attacks.
