Overview

In this video, Ngozi Mogekwu Akabudike, M.D.hand surgeon and assistant professor of orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, gives an overview of the University of Maryland Orthopaedics' Hand and Upper Extremity Program. She discusses the range of conditions treated, from simple aches and pains to fractures and crush injuries. She also discusses treatment options for the most commonly diagnosed condition -- carpal tunnel syndrome, including non-operative options such as activity modification, nighttime splinting, and injection and surgery. She provides details on the two main surgical techniques used: endoscopic and open surgery.
