Fox 45 Report Haiti Mission of Hope 2 of 3
In part two of WBFF-TV FOX 45's cover story "Haiti: Mission of Hope," Jennifer Gilbert and Darren Durlach continue their report on the University of Maryland Medical Center's ongoing relief efforts to help the Haitian people recover from the devastating earthquake that shook the country in January 2010. The Medical Center's ongoing mission is a partnership with Catholic Relief Services, the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and St. Francois de Sales Hospital in Haiti.
This portion of the report highlights the patient success stories doctors play a part in each day and the lessons being learned by physicians as they transition their work from the Medical Center to the devastated Haitian city of Port Au Prince. Featured in this part of the story is Dr. Thomas Scalea from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center who sheds light on the efforts being made by physicians to help the thousands of people in need of medical care not only from injuries caused by the earthquake, but also from previous injuries left untreated for months and even years.
