Patient Success Story- Beatrice Afrangui
Breast cancer survivor Beatrice Afrangui, M.D. considers herself very lucky. She was a 30-year-old surgical intern when she first discovered a lump in her breast and was diagnosed with interductal invasive carcinoma. She subsequently experienced two additional cancer diagnoses (one in her other breast and a thyroid cancer, both thankfully found at an early stage), was successfully treated at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center, and gave birth to a healthy son in 2001.
In this 8-minute video, Dr. Afrangui describes her disbelief and fears on learning she had cancer, the decisions she made about her treatment, and how surviving cancer fundamentally changed her and ultimately made her a better doctor.
