El liquen simple crónico, también conocido como neurodermatitis, comienza como un prurito leve que induce al paciente a rascarse, generando una mayor irritación que provoca más rascado. Finalmente, la superficie cutánea se engrosa, se vuelve excoriada y rugosa y puede hasta desarrollar un aumento en la pigmentación (hiperpigmentación).
