Examen del recién nacido

Por lo general, el recién nacido se evalúa utilizando el índice de APGAR, un examen rápido realizado durante los primeros cinco minutos después del nacimiento para determinar la condición física del recién nacido. Las cinco categorías evaluadas son la frecuencia cardíaca, el esfuerzo respiratorio, el tono muscular, la irritabilidad refleja y el color. A cada una de estas categorías se le asigna una puntuación de 0, 1 ó 2, dependiendo de la condición observada en el recién nacido.
