El examen de estimulación de la hormona del crecimiento se realiza generalmente para identificar si la hGH (hormona del crecimiento humano) es deficiente. El examen se realiza administrando el aminoácido arginina en una vena para aumentar los niveles de hGH. El examen mide la capacidad de la pituitaria para secretar la hormona de crecimiento en respuesta a la arginina. La falta de hGH puede causar retardo del crecimiento en lactantes y niños.
