Escoliosis

La curvatura anormal de la columna vertebral se llama escoliosis y generalmente comienza al inicio de la pubertad y progresa durante el período de crecimiento rápido. La mayoría de las escuelas de los Estados Unidos donde se imparten los primeros años de secundaria hacen exploraciones rutinarias para detectar escoliosis, porque si se descubre temprano se puede prevenir la curvatura progresiva de la columna. La escoliosis afecta a las muchachas con mucho mayor frecuencia que a los muchachos.
