Endocarditis infecciosa

La endocarditis infecciosa involucra a las válvulas cardíacas y, por lo general, se presenta en las personas que sufren de enfermedades cardíacas. La causa de la infección puede ser una bacteriemia transitoria, muy común durante procedimientos quirúrgicos y de diagnóstico dental, respiratorio superior, urológico o gastrointestinal inferior. La infección puede producir tumores en las válvulas cardíacas, revestimiento del corazón o revestimiento de los vasos sanguíneos, los cuales, a su vez, pueden desprenderse y enviar coágulos al cerebro, pulmones, riñones o bazo.
