Durante una colangiopancreatografía retrógrada endoscópica, se pasa un catéter a través del endoscopio y se inserta en los conductos biliares o pancreáticos. Luego, se inyecta un medio de contraste en estos conductos y se toman radiografías para evaluar su calibre, longitud y curso. En las radiografías se puede identificar estrechamiento, cálculos y tumores en dichos conductos.
