Stent de arteria coronaria

Un stent (endoprótesis vascular) de arteria coronaria es un pequeño tubo de malla metálica que se coloca dentro de una arteria coronaria para ayudar a mantenerla abierta. Para colocar el stent, se hace una pequeña incisión en el área de la ingle para lograr llegar a la arteria allí. Se pasa un catéter a través de la arteria en la ingle hasta un área de la arteria coronaria que esté bloqueada. El stent se introduce junto con un catéter con globo y se expande cuando se infla el globo. El stent se deja luego allí para ayudar a mantener la arteria abierta.
