Consejos generales para ayudar con los problemas de deglución:

  • Tome bocados pequeños, menos de 1 cucharadita de alimento por bocado.
  • Mastique bien y trague el alimento antes de tomar otro bocado.
  • Si un lado de la cara o boca es más débil, mastique el alimento en el lado más fuerte.
  • No mezcle los alimentos sólidos con los líquidos en el mismo bocado.
  • Permanezca relajado a la hora de comer.
  • No intente hacer bajar sólidos con sorbos de líquidos, a menos que su terapeuta le haya solicitado comer de esta manera.
  • Siéntese erguido durante 30 a 45 minutos después de comer.
  • Usted puede necesitar alguien que le recuerde que termine de tragar.

No beba líquidos diluidos sin verificar primero con su médico o terapeuta. Solicíteles a los cuidadores y miembros de la familia que no le hablen cuando usted esté comiendo o bebiendo.
