La sustancia blanca es el tejido que se encuentra en el cerebro y que contiene fibras nerviosas. Muchas de estas fibras nerviosas (axones) están rodeadas por un tipo de grasa llamada mielina. Ésta le da a la sustancia blanca su color, actúa como un aislante y juega un papel importante en la velocidad de las señales nerviosas.
