La ecografía se utiliza para averiguar si un bebé en desarrollo (feto) es más pequeño de lo normal para su edad (restricción en el crecimiento intrauterino). La definición que se usa más ampliamente de pequeño para su edad gestacional (SGA, por sus siglas en inglés) es el peso al nacer por debajo del percentil 10.
