Muchas cosas pueden causar dolor de pie. Usar un calzado que no ajusta adecuadamente es una de las razones más comunes por las que las personas (particularmente las mujeres) desarrollan problemas en los pies, como callos y juanetes. Con la edad, los pies se vuelven a menudo más anchos. Igualmente, el hecho de tener sobrepeso puede incrementar las posibilidades de sufrir problemas o lesiones en el pie. Compre el calzado en las horas de la tarde, cuando los pies están en su mayor tamaño debido a la hinchazón. La altura de los tacones no debe ser superior a 2,5 cm (1 pulgada). Los zapatos con puntera ancha para los dedos también pueden llevar a menos problemas en los pies.
