Aquí se muestra la comparación entre una arteria afectada por placa en un fumador y en un no fumador. La arteria del fumador está en mayor riesgo de desarrollar complicaciones, pues fumar contrae las arterias, lo que las predispone a la coagulación al alterar la función de las plaquetas y la coagulación de la sangre. El resultado es el bloqueo de la arteria.
