Secondhand Smoke is No Joke!

Secondhand smoke is more than just a drag to be around! Each year it causes:

  • 700,000 ear infections in children
  • 400,000 cases of childhood asthma
  • 9,700 babies to be born with low birth weight
  • It is linked to 2,700 cases of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

Free Smoking Cessation Classes and Counseling

This class will be taught by a nurse and/or pharmacist certified by the American Lung Association to teach their Freedom from Smoking® course. The program focuses on creating a positive behavior change using group support to become a non-smoker. You are welcome to use nicotine replacement therapy from your healthcare provider while taking the course.

You do not need to quit the first day!

When: Tuesdays (for 8 weeks)
Time: 12-1 pm
Where: UMMC Patient Resource Center, 1st floor of the Weinberg Building
Cost: Free
Who: Any Smoker over 18 years of age
Bring: Yourself (You may also bring your lunch)

Within 20 Minutes of Quitting

Within 20 minutes after you smoke that last cigarette, your body begins a series of changes that continue for years.

20 Minutes After Quitting
Your heart rate drops.

12 Hours After Quitting
Carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.

2 Weeks to 3 Months After Quitting
Your heart Attack risk begins to drop.
Your lung function begins to improve.
