Urinary tract infections are very common, especially in women. Nearly half of all women get these uncomfortable infections. In this Medically Speaking podcast, Dr. Richard Colgan, a family medicine physician at the University of Maryland Medical Center, discusses the common causes and symptoms of urinary tract infections and he talks about ways to prevent UTIs. The most common treatment is antibiotics, but some infections have become resistant to some drug therapies.

In this interview with Sharon Boston, Dr. Colgan also discusses his recent research on determining which antibiotic may be best for which patient. Dr. Colgan is also an associate professor of community and family medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
