All patients have the right to make decisions about their medical care, including whether or not to refuse medical and surgical treatment and to prepare Advance Directives. Where to Go for Admission
UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown
General Admission: Patients should visit the Information Desk in the main lobby of the hospital, where specific instructions and directions will be provided by staff on duty.
Emergency Admission: The Emergency Department entrance is past the main entrance to the hospital, at the corner of Brown Street and Roberts Drive.
UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester
General Admission: Patients should go through the main entrance and through the doors on the right marked “Surgery Registration,” then turn left. The office will be on the right.
Emergency Admission: The Emergency Department entrance is accessible from the main drive on the right side of the hospital, down the ramp to the lower level.
UM Shore Medical Center at Easton
General Admission: All patients are admitted in the Freeman Outpatient Center on the south side of the hospital next to the parking lot.
Emergency Admission: The Emergency Department entrance is on the south side of the hospital past the Freeman Outpatient Center entrance, accessible from either Washington Street or West Earle Avenue.

What to Bring
Our hospitals offer private and semi-private rooms, each with its own bathroom. Patients are advised to bring sleepwear, robes and slippers; however, jewelry, cash and valuable items should not be kept in patient rooms. Shore Regional Health cannot be responsible for personal items kept in patient rooms.
Language interpretation services are available for patients and their visiting family members, as follows:
- UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown – Human Resources, 410-778-7668, ext. 4044, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. At other times, patients may dial 0 for the hospital telephone operator and request Language Line Service. Arrangements also can be made for a certified sign language interpreter, if needed.
- UM Shore Medical Centers at Dorchester and Easton – Inform your Access Representative upon admission that a Language Line Service will be needed. Arrangements also can be made for a certified sign language interpreter.
Pastoral & Spiritual Care
In all Shore Regional Health hospitals, a chaplain is available to respond to patients' spiritual needs, and each hospital maintains a chapel for use by patients and their families or other visitors seeking a quiet place for prayer, meditation, and reflection. To speak to the chaplain, a patient should inform his or her nurse, who will contact the chaplain on call.
For the health of our patients, visitors and staff, all Shore Regional Health facilities are smoke-free. Smoking is prohibited inside all buildings, and also on outdoor areas of our facilities, including entrances, sidewalks, and parking lots (including inside vehicles).
Telephone and Television Services
All patient rooms have telephone and television service at no cost, except the critical care units, which have television service only. Also, cell phone use is prohibited in the critical care units and limited in many other areas of Shore Regional Health facilities.
Hospital volunteers deliver mail daily to patients; any mail arriving after a patient’s discharge will be forwarded to the home address on record. Mail to patients should include the name of the recipient, the room number, and the name and address of the hospital.
Food and Nutrition Services
Shore Regional Health is committed to providing fresh, nutritious and appetizing meals to hospital patients. Inpatient food service is available from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. Each of the three hospitals has a cafeteria with limited hours and vending machines.
Patients and their family members and friends are encouraged to donate blood and become members of the regional blood donation center, Blood Bank of Delmarva. Patients who are not members of the blood bank may be charged a blood replacement fee. For blood donor information, call the Blood Bank of Delmarva at – 800 548-4009, or visit www.delmarvablood.org.
The three hospitals operate gift shops that are accessible from the main entrance lobby. Staffed by their respective Auxiliary volunteers, these shops maintain varying hours of operation and carry a wide array of gifts, flowers, cards, snacks, and reading material.
