UMMC Flu Vaccination Program Starts October 1
Vaccination is Mandatory for All Staff
The Medical Center's annual flu vaccination campaign gets under way October 1. The hospital's flu policy (HRM-114) requires that all employees either be vaccinated or submit appropriate documentation for declining. Declining is allowed only for medical or religious reasons.
Employee Health Services will offer this season's flu vaccine free of charge to employees, attendings, residents, fellows and volunteers. The deadline for vaccination is December 5, 2013.
The vaccine will be available on a walk-in basis in Employee Health Services, Suite T1R05, Monday – Friday from 7 am to 4 pm except holidays starting October 1. For after-hours availability, check the schedule on the Flu-Free Zone website.
Anybody who declines the vaccination, or who gets it elsewhere, must complete an online declination form available at the Flu-Free Zone website and submit it, along with the required documentation, according to the instructions on the website. The deadline for submitting the documentation is November 7, 2013.
New This Year
For the first time, an egg–free vaccine will be available in Employee Health for individuals between the ages of 18 and 49. Therefore, individuals under age 50 who had previously declined due to an egg allergy will now be expected to receive the vaccine.
