Step Up to Good Health Care Package
Please join us on September 18 at 12 p.m. for the Step Up to Good Health Care Package entitled "TB or not TB." This Care Package will be presented by Michael Anne Preas, RN, BSN, CIC, and Surbhi Leekha, MBBS, MPH from Infection Prevention. Learn how to recognize the difference between latent and active TB, how TB is transmitted and what healthcare workers can do to prevent transmission in the healthcare workplace. You will also be able to identify engineering controls and respiratory protection for TB prevention.
This Care Package will be located in the Patient Resource Center Assembly Room (S1D03). This event is FREE and lunch will be provided; however, registration is required in advance. To register, please call 8-2999. We look forward to seeing you there!
Give the Gift of Life
The University of Maryland Medical Center will host a Red Cross blood drive on September 24 and 25, from 8 am to 8 pm on the first floor of Gudelsky near the information desk. All donors will receive a $5 gift card good at any medical center restaurant as our thanks for donating.
Please schedule your donation at www.umm.edu/blood or just stop by.
The September MTA passes are available in the Parking and Transportation Office in room G1J42 two doors down from the HR Service Center and the Great Cookie. The deadline or setup or cancel for an October MTA pass is September 18 at noon. For more information on MTA, please refer to their website.
Camden Yard Parking Updates
There are Oriole evening games scheduled for September 24-27 beginning at 7:05 pm. All vehicles must be removed no later that 5:30 pm. For more information on restrictions during baseball season, please refer to the Parking page on the UMMC Intranet or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are interested in switching to alternate parking facility, please stop by the Parking and Transportation office in room G1J42 to find out what is available.
Save the date for the 2013 UMMC United Way Campaign Kickoff!
The UMMC United Way Kickoff will be held on October 10, from 11 am-2 pm in the Weinberg Atrium. There will be free food, games and prizes. Donated books, CDs and DVDs will be for sale during the event as well. Another way to support UWCM & stock up on books and movies for a fraction of the cost. During the campaign there will be Pledge Card Raffles, you must pledge $1 a pay to be eligible. To be eligible for the Grand Prize (a pair of tickets to a Ravens game), you must pledge $2 a pay. Other prizes include gift certificates/coupons to area stores and restaurants.
Please consider supporting UMMC's United Way Campaign by donating new or gently used books, CDs and DVDs. We've had great response in years past and hope you will continue to support the book sale. We will not be collecting magazines this year.

Items will be available for purchase at the UW Kick-off Event on October 10 in the Weinberg Atrium as well as the Mid-campaign Event on October 23. All proceeds from this sale support the UMMC United Way Campaign.
University Farmers Market
The University Farmers Market takes place in Plaza Park, across the street from the hospital's main entrance, along Paca Street. Local farmers will be selling fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, soups, sauces and much more. The market will be open every Tuesday from 10 am until 2:30 pm and will run weekly from May through November. The University Farmers Market is proud to announce that this year, in addition to WIC/FVC and FMNP (Farmers Market Nutrition Program) benefits, they will now accept SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) benefits, formerly known as Food Stamps.
Weight Watchers at Work
As part of the Step Up To Good Health Wellness Program, UMMC continues to offer Weight Watchers at Work. Engage in fun activities; learn about the proven Weight Watchers approach, the new monthly pass and how you can attend At Work meetings.
The program is available by purchasing a monthly pass for $39.95 per month. The monthly pass system allows members to attend meetings at work at UMMC or near their home. You do not need to wait for a session to begin; you can join at any time. All Weight Watchers at Work meetings are scheduled in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building at 110 South Paca Street from 1 - 1:30 pm on Wednesdays. Weigh in begins at 12:45 pm prior to the meeting.
