Give the Gift of Life

The University of Maryland Medical Center will host a Red Cross blood drive on February 6, from 8 am to 1:30 pm in the Paca Pratt Building, Lower Level. All donors will receive a $5 gift card good at any medical center restaurant as our thanks for donating.  Please schedule your donation at www.umm.edu/blood or just stop by.

Parking Restrictions on Redwood and Penn Streets

Effective immediately, parking will no longer be permitted along Redwood Street and Penn Street behind the Medical Center, in the immediate area of Howard Hall, HSF2, and the Shock Trauma Building. Truck standing and idling is also prohibited in this area.

Parking will also be prohibited on Redwood Street between MLK Boulevard and Pine Street, along the Old St. Paul's Cemetery. This block will become a truck staging area for the Howard Hall and 22 South Greene Street loading docks.  Penn Street between Lombard and Redwood will restricted to emergency vehicles and Shock Trauma Pavilion patient access only.  These restrictions will be enforced by Campus police.

Weight Watchers at Work

As part of the Step Up To Good Health Wellness Program, UMMC continues to offer Weight Watchers at Work.  Engage in fun activities; learn about the proven Weight Watchers approach, the new Checkmonthly pass and how you can attend At Work meetings.

Weight Watchers offers the new Simple Start program, two weeks of meals designed to get you off to a fantastic start.  You will learn what to eat to be satisfied and start losing weight. 

The program is available by purchasing a monthly pass for $39.95 per month.  The monthly pass system allows members to attend meetings at work at UMMC or near their home.  You do not need to wait for a session to begin; you can join at any time.  All Weight Watchers at Work meetings are scheduled in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building at 110 South Paca Street from 1 - 1:30 pm on Wednesdays.  Weigh in begins at 12:45 pm prior to the meeting. If you have further questions or need assistance, please contact Regina Hogan, Employee Health Services at 410-328-1788 or contact Weight Watchers via email or phone at wellnesshelp@weightwatchers.com or phone 866-204-2885.

Diabetes Conference

A one-day conference on "Team Management of Diabetes" will be held on March 11 from 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus Center, 621 Lombard Street. The conference is approved for contact hours for nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians and pharmacists.  To register online, please visit: diabetes2014.eventbrite.com. Step Up to Good Health

Please join us on February 5, at noon for the Step Up to Good Health Care Package entitled "Cholesterol 101". This Care Package will be presented by Rana Malek M.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Nutrition, University of Maryland School of Medicine. Learn about what cholesterol is, why high cholesterol is a problem, what can a person do to influence their cholesterol levels, and what are the treatment options?  This Care Package will be located in the Patient Resource Center Assembly Room (S1D03). This event is FREE and lunch will be provided; however, registration is required in advance. To register, please call 8-2999. We look forward to seeing you there!

MTA Information

The February 2014 MTA Passes are available. Passes can be picked up from the Parking Office located in the Gudelsky Lobby, two doors down from the Great Cookie. Please Note: The Parking Office can no longer allow staff to pick up their colleagues MTA Passes. We now require the signature from the actual pass holder. If your pass has been lost or stolen, the Parking Office is unable to provide any replacements under any circumstances.  The Parking Office hours of operation are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the office at ext. 8-0055 or via email at parking@umm.edu.

Knitting Club

Come join the Knitting and Crocheting Circle and help crochet or knit hats and lap blankets for our cancer patients at the Patient Resource Center, 1st Tuesday of the month, noon-2 pm. Drop ins welcome!
