Give the Gift of Life
The University of Maryland Medical Center will host a Red Cross blood drive on January 10, from 12:30 to 6 pm on the first floor of Gudelsky near the Information Desk. All donors will receive a $5 gift card good at any medical center restaurant as our thanks for donating. Please schedule your donation at www.umm.edu/blood or just stop by.
New Parking Restrictions on Redwood and Penn Streets
Effective immediately, parking will no longer be permitted along Redwood Street and Penn Street behind the Medical Center, in the immediate area of Howard Hall, HSF2, and the Shock Trauma Building. Truck standing and idling is also prohibited in this area.
Parking will also be prohibited on Redwood Street between MLK Boulevard and Pine Street, along the Old St. Paul's Cemetery. This block will become a truck staging area for the Howard Hall and 22 South Greene Street loading docks. Penn Street between Lombard and Redwood will restricted to emergency vehicles and Shock Trauma Pavilion patient access only.
These restrictions will be enforced by Campus police.
Weight Watchers at Work
As part of the Step Up To Good Health Wellness Program, UMMC continues to offer Weight Watchers at Work. Engage in fun activities; learn about the proven Weight Watchers approach, the new monthly pass and how you can attend At Work meetings.
Join us for a free Open House on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 12:45 pm in room 7A in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building. This will be hosted by a Weight Watchers leader who has successfully lost weight with Weight Watchers. Engage in fun activities, learn about the proven Weight Watchers approach and how you can attend the At Work meetings. Beginning in January, Weight Watchers is introducing the new Simple Start program, two weeks of meals designed to get you off to a fantastic start. You will learn what to eat to be satisfied and start losing weight.
The program is available by purchasing a monthly pass for $39.95 per month. The monthly pass system allows members to attend meetings at work at UMMC or near their home. You do not need to wait for a session to begin; you can join at any time. All Weight Watchers at Work meetings are scheduled in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building at 110 South Paca Street from 1 - 1:30 pm on Wednesdays. Weigh in begins at 12:45 pm prior to the meeting. January MTA Passes are available in the Parking and Transportation Office, located in room G1J42, two doors down from the Great Cookie. The deadline to start or cancel February commuter pass will be Wednesday, January 8.
2014 Baltimore City Cancer Program Calendar
The Baltimore City Cancer Program (BCCP) at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center has its 2014 calendar "A Brand New Me....Reflections from Breast Cancer Survivors" for sale. Proceeds from the calendar will benefit BCCP's "Living and Loving Life Breast Cancer Support Group". The calendar features women of all ages and all walks of life. Photographer Shaun Anthony, make-up artist Carla Williams Hines, Rickisha White and Racquel Allen dedicated their time and talent to this project. The use of "At Last Farm" for the calendar shoot was donated by Wayne and Beth Schaefer. The calendars make a great gift for family and friends or for yourself. Come join the Knitting and Crocheting Circle and help crochet or knit hats and lap blankets for our cancer patients at the Patient Resource Center, 1st Tuesday of the month, noon-2 pm. Drop ins welcome!
Adult Clothing Needed
The Department of Social Work clothes closet is in need of winter clothing for men and women. Items needed are: jeans, sweat pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, belts, jackets/coats and shoes (sneakers, slip-on shoes and boots). Large sizes are especially needed. Please make sure all clothes are washed and in good condition. Please do not drop off dress clothes, skirts, suits, dress shoes, high heels or children's clothing. Please drop off your donation to the Department of Social Work, Room S1A10 or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
