Save the Date for the UMMC Holiday Party
All UMMC employees are invited to the annual holiday party in the Gudelsky Atrium on Wednesday, December 18, from 3 to 8 pm and 11 pm - 1 am near the cafeteria Employees must wear their badges.
Holiday Craft Fair
A holiday craft fair will be held at the Campus Center on Friday, December 6, from 11 am to 2:30 pm. Everyone is invited to stop by and checkout blown glass pieces, holiday themed merchandise, unique accessories, gourmet sweet treats, tote bags, greeting cards, centerpieces and hand painted items.
Everyone is invited to stop by and hear live holiday music December 18-20. The University of Maryland Medical Center Chamber Players will perform under the direction of Dr. Elijah Saunders, head of the Division of Hypertension at UMMC. All performances will be held in the Gudelsky Lobby of the Medical Center from noon to 1 pm.
Give the Gift of Life
The University of Maryland Medical Center will host a Red Cross blood drive on December 12, from 8 am to 2 pm in the Paca Pratt Building, lower level. All donors will receive a $5 gift card good at any medical center restaurant as our thanks for donating. There will be a raffle for tickets for the play “Crimes of the Heart” at Everyman Theater and tickets to the University of Maryland vs. Boston University, men's basketball game on December 21. Step Up to Good Health
Please join us on December 11 at noon for the Step Up to Good Health Care Package entitled "Weighing in on your Health: Understanding the impact of obesity and how to approach weight loss". This Care Package will be presented by Ava Port, MD., Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Nutrition, University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Learn how to define obesity and examine its role in chronic disease (such as diabetes, heart disease, etc), identify weight loss goals for individuals who are overweight or obese, and 10 helpful tips for getting started with weight loss. This Care Package will be held in the Patient Resource Center Assembly Room (S1D03). This event is FREE and lunch will be provided; however, registration is required in advance. Step Up to Good Health 8-Week Challenge
Avoid the winter blues and get into shape with the Step Up to Good Health 8-Week Walking Challenge! The walking challenge has begun and will continue until December 13.
We will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon - 12:30 pm in the Weinberg hallway across from the Patient Resource Center near the fountain. Come join us and get into shape today!
Weight Watchers at Work
As part of the Step Up To Good Health Wellness Program, UMMC continues to offer Weight Watchers at Work. Engage in fun activities; learn about the proven Weight Watchers approach, the new monthly pass and how you can attend At Work meetings. The program is available by purchasing a monthly pass for $39.95 per month. The monthly pass system allows members to attend meetings at work at UMMC or near their home. You do not need to wait for a session to begin; you can join at any time.
All Weight Watchers at Work meetings are scheduled in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building at 110 South Paca Street from 1 - 1:30 pm on Wednesdays. Weigh in begins at 12:45 pm prior to the meeting. December MTA Passes are available in the Parking and Transportation Office, located in room G1J42, two doors down from the Great Cookie. The deadline to start or cancel January commuter pass will be Wednesday, December 18.
Lunch Under the Pipes
The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law presents “Lunch Under the Pipes” at noon on December 12 at Westminster Hall. Bring your lunch and enjoy the music from The United States Army Field Band.
2014 Baltimore City Cancer Program Calendar
The Baltimore City Cancer Program (BCCP) at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center has its 2014 calendar "A Brand New Me...Reflections from Breast Cancer Survivors" for sale. Proceeds from the calendar will benefit BCCP's "Living and Loving Life Breast Cancer Support Group". The calendar features women of all ages and all walks of life. Photographer Shaun Anthony, make-up artist Carla Williams Hines, Rickisha White and Racquel Allen dedicated their time and talent to this project. The use of "At Last Farm" for the calendar shoot was donated by Wayne and Beth Schaefer. The calendars make a great gift for family and friends or for yourself. Come join the Knitting and Crocheting Circle and help crochet or knit hats and lap blankets for our cancer patients at the Patient Resource Center, 1st Tuesday of the month, noon-2 pm. Drop ins welcome!
Adult Clothing Needed
The Department of Social Work clothes closet is in need of winter clothing for men and women. Items needed are: jeans, sweat pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, belts, jackets/coats and shoes (sneakers, slip-on shoes and boots). Large sizes are especially needed. Please make sure all clothes are washed and in good condition. Please do not drop off dress clothes, skirts, suits, dress shoes, high heels or children's clothing. Please drop off your donation to the Department of Social Work, Room S1A10 or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
