The annual training window is now open, and all training must be completed by June 30. Go to Healthstream Training on the home page of the Intranet, and log in with your employee number and last name. Select the "My Learning" tab for the courses assigned to you. According to HR's annual training policy (HRM 119), employees who don't complete the training will be expected to report to work and complete all outstanding courses. "Employees will not be paid benefit time when they are out due to non-compliance in the completion of annual training."
Give the Gift of Life
The University of Maryland Medical Center will host a Red Cross blood drive on May 2, from 8 am to 2 pm in the Paca Pratt Building, Lower Level. All donors will receive a $5 gift card good at any medical center restaurant as our thanks for donating. Please schedule your donation at www.umm.edu/blood or just stop by.
The May MTA passes are available in the Parking and Transportation Office in room G1J42 two doors down from the HR Service Center and the Great Cookie. If you plan to have a co-worker or friend pick up your pass, they will need to present your ID to retrieve your MTA pass. Understanding Unconscious Bias Forum
The UMMC Council on Cultural Competence & Inclusion will host the second in a series of Diversity & Inclusion Forums on May 6 & 8. Please register through HealthStream. In this second forum, Understanding Unconscious Bias, staff will review research and discuss how cultural differences affect our perceptions, and how that plays out in our interactions with co-workers, patients, and their families. We will explore the impact of unconscious bias, and learn techniques to recognize it when it occurs and manage it effectively. The forums will be held in the Round Room (W3-201), Weinberg Building on the following dates:
- Monday, May 6, 10-11 a.m.
- Wednesday, May 8, 10-11 a.m.
- Wednesday May 8, 2-3 p.m.
Camden Yard Parking Updates
There are Oriole evening games scheduled for May 7-9 beginning at 7:05 pm all vehicles must be removed no later that 5:30 pm. Maryland Half Marathon
The 5th annual 13.1 mile race takes place on Saturday, May 11, in Maple Lawn, Howard County. 100% of the net proceeds benefit the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. The event will also feature Dozer's Kids Fun Run and a post-race festival. Non-runners are welcome to sign up to fund raise, with no registration fee, and earn fund-raising premiums. University Farmers Market
The University Farmers Market returns on May 14. This will be the fifth season for the market, which will take place in Plaza Park, across the street from the hospital's main entrance, along Paca Street. Local farmers will be selling fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, soups, sauces and much more. The market will be open every Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and will run weekly from May through November. The University Farmers Market is proud to announce that this year, in addition to WIC/FVC and FMNP (Farmers Market Nutrition Program) benefits, they will now accept SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) benefits, formerly known as Food Stamps.
Weight Watchers at Work
As part of the Step Up To Good Health Wellness Program, UMMC continues to offer Weight Watchers at Work. - The program is available by purchasing a monthly pass for $39.95 per month.
The monthly pass system allows members to attend meetings at work at UMMC or near their home. You do not need to wait for a session to begin; you can join at any time. All Weight Watchers at Work meetings are scheduled in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building at 110 South Paca Street from 1 - 1:30 pm on Wednesdays. Weigh in begins at 12:45 pm prior to the meeting.

Step Up to Good Health 12-Week Challenge
Start the spring off by getting into shape!
One way to help get into shape is to join the Step Up to Good Health 12-Week Walking Challenge.
The walking challenge began on April 1and will continue until June 28. We will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Weinberg hallway across from the Patient Resource Center near the fountain. The group walks outside most days, and inside during inclement weather. Come join us and get in shape today!
UMaryland Immediate Care
Not feeling well today, but do not have time to get to your regular doctor? UMaryland Immediate Care is a practice just for employees, faculty and students working on campus. Located at 408 W. Lombard Street (halfway between Paca and Eutaw Streets), the practice is open from 7 am to 5 pm and is staffed by physicians and other practitioners. At the Immediate Care practice, you will receive fast walk-in service and immediate referrals, for any additional health needs. For more information, call 410-328-1362.
Are You Taking Care of an Elderly Parent? Or a Disabled Child Who Needs Extra Care?
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is starting a Support Group for employees who are taking care of elderly and/or disabled loved ones. We anticipate a group that gives people the opportunity to share resources, ideas, and just have someone to listen to us. Seated Massage at UMMC
Each Friday from noon until 3 pm, a Licensed Massage Therapist will offer 15 or 30 minute seated massages in the Patient Resource Center in the Weinberg Building. These sessions are available to staff, visitors and patients (with a doctor's approval). Some benefits of seated massage: reduce muscle tension & pain, increase energy & alertness, calm nervous system, reduce anxiety levels.
- Price: $18 for 15 minutes, $36 for 30 minutes.
- Cash and checks are accepted. Gift certificates are also available.

Come join the Knitting and Crocheting Circle and help crochet or knit hats and lap blankets for our cancer patients at the Patient Resource Center, 1st Tuesday of the month, noon-2 pm. Drop ins welcome!
The University of Maryland Integrative Care Team will hold yoga classes every Friday from 3-4 pm in the Patient Assembly Room (S1D03). The cost is $5 per session; the funds will support patient resources and nursing education. Mats will be provided and comfortable work attire is acceptable.
