Give the Gift of Life

The University of Maryland Medical Center will host a Red Cross blood drive on July 21-23 from 8 am to 8 pm on the first floor of Gudelsky near the Information Desk. All donors will receive a $5 gift card good at any medical center restaurant as our thanks for donating. Please schedule your donation at or just stop by.

University Farmers Market

Stop by The University Farmers Market in the Plaza Park, across the street from the hospital's main entrance, along Paca Street. Local farmers will be selling fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, soups, sauces and much more. The market will be open every Tuesday from 10 am until 2:30 pm and will run weekly through November. The University Farmers Market, in addition to WIC vouchers and senior coupons, now accepts SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) benefits, formerly known as Food Stamps.

Weight Watchers at Work

As part of the Step Up To Good Health Wellness Program, UMMC continues to offer Weight Watchers at Work.  Engage in fun activities; learn about the proven Weight Watchers approach, the new Check monthly pass and how you can attend At Work meetings. Weight Watchers offers the new Simple Start program, two weeks of meals designed to get you off to a fantastic start.  You will learn what to eat to be satisfied and start losing weight. The program is available by purchasing a monthly pass for $39.95 per month.  The monthly pass system allows members to attend meetings at work at UMMC or near their home.  You do not need to wait for a session to begin; you can join at any time.  All Weight Watchers at Work meetings are scheduled in the lower level of the Paca Pratt building at 110 South Paca Street from 1 - 1:30 pm on Wednesdays.  Weigh in begins at 12:45 pm prior to the meeting.   If you have further questions or need assistance, please contact Regina Hogan, Employee Health Services at 410-328-1788 or contact Weight Watchers via email or phone at or phone 866-204-2885.

MTA Information

The July 2014 passes are available for pick up from the Parking and Transportation office located in the Gudelsky Lobby, room G1J42, two doors down from the Great Cookie. The Parking Office can no longer allow staff to pick up their colleagues MTA Passes. We now require the signature from the actual pass holder. If your pass has been lost or stolen, the Parking Office is unable to provide any replacements under any circumstances.  The Parking Office hours of operation are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 am and 4:30 pm. Lexington Market is partnering with the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) to offer some exciting market discounts for UMB students, faculty, and staff, and University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) employees.  How to Receive the Discount:

Bariatric Surgery Support Group

This group offers support for post-operative bariatric surgery patients to gain confidence and support necessary to maintain weight loss success. Meetings will be held at UMMC in the Patient Assembly Room (PRC) on:
2nd Thursday of each month 5:45-6:30 pm 4th Tuesday of each month, doors will open at 11:30 am and the meeting will start at noon (bring your lunch), low calorie drinks will be provided.

UMMC Healing Arts Exhibit for Employees & Families

The Healing Arts Team, has partnered with the National Arts Program® to host our second employee art exhibition and awards reception at UMMC on October 2. All UMMC employees, physicians, and their immediately family members are invited to exhibit their artwork and compete for cash prizes sponsored by the National Arts Program® in the following categories: Amateur, Intermediate, Professional, Teen 13-18 and Youth 12 & Under. There is no entry fee, but all entries must be the original work of the applicant, completed within the last three years.  Registration is now open until August 8.
