Los histiocitos no viajan a través de la sangre. En lugar de esto, permanecen en una parte del cuerpo.

Los histiocitos se encuentran en muchos órganos y tejidos, entre ellos los siguientes:

  • Cerebro
  • Tejido mamario
  • Hígado
  • Ganglios linfáticos
  • Placenta
  • Bazo
  • Amígdalas

Un número anormal de histiocitos lleva a que se presente una enfermedad llamada histiocitosis de las células de Langerhan, anterioramente llamada histiocitosis X.
